Three motorcyclists and ambulance driver victims in Bay roads carnage

THREE motorcyclists and an ambulance driver were killed in a weekend of bloodshed on Nelson Mandela Bay roads which has left families and friends devastated.

A number of other people were injured in a string of accidents, one of them causing the death of an ambulance driver on a badly lit stretch of freeway. Lyle Labercensie and a colleague were rushing to the scene of a head-on collision in Motherwell.

Broken glass, fragments of metal and blood-stained personal belongings lay scattered at different spots as the victims' families and friends battled to come to terms with the deaths of loved ones.

Port Elizabeth couple Juan de Lange, 38, and Carol van Niekerk, 29, were killed when they were involved in a collision with a white Opel Astra near the Fiveways intersection at about midday.
