Easy does it for NMMU1

MECER NMMU1 hardly broke a sweat as they romped to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Buco Uitenhage in their EP Super A League cricket fixture at the campus on Saturday.

Uitenhage batted first and failed to come to grips with a disciplined student attack, being dismissed for 91.

Darius Botha was the only batsman to make any noteworthy contribution with 37. NMMU1 seamer Devon Adams was the best of the bowlers taking five for 19.

NMMU1 rushed to their target with only two wickets down, Eddie Moore making a solid 50 not out.

Maritime Motors Old Grey were given a mini-scare in their fixture against the students' second team, also at the campus.

Old Grey were restricted to 187 for nine wickets, with Chad Breetzke making an unbeaten 50 and Grant Auths adding 44. NMMU2 made a good run of it but once Old Grey had dismissed the top order, the remaining wickets fell quickly. Leftarm spinner Sid Gowar took three wickets for 12 runs as NMMU2 were bowled out for 146.

SA Home Loans Union returned to winning ways on Saturday, coming out on top in a potentially tough trip to Finnis Street against Northville.

The home side batted first but could only manage 155 for eight.

Union stuttered up front, reaching 65 for four before a fifth-wicket partnership of 79 between skipper Arnold (53) and Aveshan Moodaley (27no) all but took them to victory.
