Warriors fold as Lions claim second place

11 February 2013
Alvin Reeves

THE Highveld Lions triumphed in the showdown for second place when they beat the Chevrolet Warriors by 125 runs in their Sunfoil Series cricket match at Axxess St George's yesterday.

The Warriors started the last day of the final match of the series on 119 for four wickets, still needing 271 to reach their target of 390 for an unlikely victory. But Cliffie Deacon and Imran Tahir shared five wickets and Chris Morris took another to finish with four for the innings to reduce the Warriors to 264 all out.

The victory means the Lions finish second behind the Cape Cobras, who were crowned champions on Saturday as a result of their win over the Knights in Bloemfontein.
