TRANSNET will centralise its research and development unit at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)‚ Transnet Group CE Brian Molefe said yesterday.
He was signing a three-year memorandum of understanding with CSIR CEO Sibusiso Sibisi in Johannesburg.
Transnet is on the verge of rolling out a R300-billion capital development programme‚ but Molefe said "we are not going to do them (capital rollouts) in the same way as 50 years ago” – when Transnet built existing infrastructure.
"Technology has taken over,” he said.
