Fort Hare campus empty after protests

THE University of Fort Hare’s Alice campus was empty of students yesterday after a week of protests.

Students blocked the university’s main entrance with burning tyres on Monday as they protested against a 90% increase in residence fees, among other issues.

A number of students said the protest action continued well into Monday night, despite an interdict from the Bhisho High Court which prohibited students protesting.
