Bhisho to take over metro

13 February 2013
Zandile Mbabela

NELSON Mandela Bay, the Eastern Cape’s biggest metro and its industrial heartland, will be taken over by Bhisho for the next six months. Local Government MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane yesterday confirmed that national government had decided to place the increasingly dysfunctional municipality under administration.

"The administrative and managerial weaknesses, council instability, executive obligations unfulfilled, litigation and contract management faultlines etc may have warranted national concern,” Qoboshiyane said.

The MEC said that he, together with premier Noxolo Kiviet and her executive, would meet to discuss when to implement the decision.

Hey Mtiz you are so correct when you say the ANC REC is incompetent, but there again so is the local ANC Metro management. I don't see any purpose to have "head quarters" come down to intervene, they have already done that before which seems that it was not worth a teaspoon full of warm spit, as they still cannot sort out their own problems let alone the problems of the people of the Metro. I think it is time to change the governing party for the benifit of all living in this metro, vote DA.

The problem on this Metro we are having two Mayors one is Mr Nceba "Bully Giraffe Faku and Mr Zanoxolo Wayile. Now on his (Faku) term as a mayor of the P.E know one was doing what he is doing now. The issue started when he want to control/ pose to the mayor who should be considered on the positions of administration in the munucipality and also on the metro municipality manager. Now lately as a chairperson of the ANC in the big metro also sposoring that someone from Cope ranks must act on the MM position. I do not know whether Mr Faku and his REC members do understand what they are doing. Now our metro is going on provincial administration. I do not want to say our mayor is not competed but our ANC REC IS THE ONE WHO IS NOT COMPETED TO LEAD THIS BIG METRO IS S.A. The current ANC on the head quarters must come down and intervene on this matter.

Well there you have it, Confirmation from the ANC themselves that they have been unable to run this metro properly. There you have it that they concede that they are not doing a good job at all in this metro.

This was entirely predictable. We have a failed municipality unable to deliver the most basic of services, such as clean water. However, it is not so clear cut - the Provincial interference is symptomatic of the deep ANC provincial in-fighting - the anti-Wayile faction has won (for the moment).. Are we headed back to the dark Faku days? Don't be surprised if his allies re-emerge here : this is not good news, just another day closer to total collapse of the NMMM. The Province can't run itself (Health, Education - anyone read the news recently), so don't expect any improvement in our situation.
