VOLKSWAGEN Baseball Club pulled off a thrilling win over Tigers in their EP Baseball Union league fixture at the weekend, eventually scraping home 10-9.
In a fluctuating contest, the lead changed hands five times before VWBC pulled off the remarkable win.
Tigers players who performed well with bat and on defence were Hennie Stander, Gary Bailey, Wayne Scholtz and Julius Grobbelaar.
Pitcher Zallie Lombard shone for VWBC and kept most batters at bay, getting four strike-outs.
Chrissie Ainsley and Lombard were both in line for the man of the match award which eventually went to Ainsley, who closed off the game in the last frame with his pitching, giving VWBC their win.
Pirates overcame Despatch Red Sox in the second fixture, winning 17-10.
Francois Bezuidenhout pitched well for Pirates, although there was some strong resistance with the bat from Ronald Haarhoff, Dillon le Roux, Raymond Coetzer and Keith Grobler for Red Sox.
For Pirates, Bezuidenhout, Jono Viljoen and Liaan Muller batted well and, in the end, too many unforced errors helped Pirates to run away with the win.
In the B Division, Red Sox held off a strong fight by Pirates B to win 12-10 and Tigers B came from behind to fend off a spirited VWBC B side 21-20.
