Short crop can be a cut above

13 February 2013

IT would appear like most of the world’s fashion commentators, I was not alone when I wondered how long Miley Cyrus’s flirtation with short hair would last.

Especially given a fashion industry and teenage fan base that idolise long hair.

Even if it is all fake! Since I wrote about her first haircut, her hair has got progressively shorter and shorter. "I hated the extensions – hair that’s sewn into your head. It’s creepy. You will never see me with long hair again! My fiance loves it. "It’s so much easier to go shave the sides once a week rather than getting your roots done when you have long hair. I feel like when you have short hair, the messier it is, the better it looks,” Miley told E! News.

I have noticed a definite shift towards shorter hair internationally but it would appear the trend is only just starting to catch on here. While her present look has more in common with a schoolboy’s cut, I would think twice before asking your son’s hairdresser for the same. The simple truth of the matter is that a good short style is infinitely harder to do than a long one, for the equally simple reason that the margins for error are much smaller.

In my experience, most men will like some or other short style, so try asking your other half.

That said, if you are thinking of doing it but are not sure take a pair of scissors and grab a hunk of hair from one side. If you feel that you would have no problems cutting it, by all means make an appointment and go for it. If you don’t feel confident doing it, then perhaps you are not quite ready for short hair.
