Kings flop in friendly

THE Southern Kings suffered a major setback ahead of their Super Rugby debut when they slumped to a narrow 30-27 defeat against Griquas at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last night.

For the first time this season, the ambitious Kings rolled out all their big guns in a bid to send a strong message that they are ready for the challenges Super Rugby will pose.

However, even the return of skipper Luke Watson and star flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis did not provide the Kings with enough firepower to subdue a well-organised Griquas outfit in the friendly.

The hero for Griquas was cool-headed flyhalf Burton Francis, who scored a try and kicked three penalties and three conversions to notch up a personal tally of 20 points.
