Pistorius to spend night behind bars

Police spokeswoman Brigadier Denise Beukes confirmed that Oscar Pistorius will not be appearing in court today and will remain in police custody over night.

"The investigation is still under way and the court roll is already set. In all likeliness he will be appearing in the morning," she told The Herald.

"We will be opposing bail at the time based on the evidence that is currently being gathered."

Pistoriusallegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, former Miss PE finalist and FHM model Reeva Steenkamp, early on Thursday morning.
 
A case of murder was opened for the Valentine's Day shooting at the athlete's home.
