Surplus teachers ordered to take up vacant posts

SURPLUS teachers in the Eastern Cape have been given an ultimatum – move to where you are needed or face the possibility of not getting paid.

Excess teachers have until the end of next month to move to the thousands of vacant posts across the province – a move the beleaguered Education Department says will go a long way towards stabilising its pressurised budget.

This follows intervention by the provincial ANC to end the stand-off between the department and the SA Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu).
