GRAEME were made to work hard for their schools cricket victory against Alexander Road in Grahamstown at the weekend, eventually getting home by five wickets.
After a good start, Alex fell to some efficient pace bowling from Abongile Hashe, who claimed 4/24 in 12 overs. The visitors were not able to build any momentum after Hashe removed four of the top six batsmen and then offspinner Craig Williams came on to wrap up the tail with figures of 3/5 in 3.3 overs.
Determined to defend their total of 100, Alex dismissed openers Odwa Xonxa and Russell Dixon to have Graeme reeling at 6/2.
The damage was repaired as Lukhanyo Tshongweni and Keenan Vieira rebuilt the innings. Alex fought bravely to claim three more wickets but Graeme eventually got home with five wickets in hand.
