AFTER winning a close day-night match against Stanley on Friday, Kingswood strode confidently to a 127-run win over Muir in their schools' cricket clash in Grahamstown at the weekend.
Batting first, Kingswood lost Drew Matthews early, but Brad Haller (64) and Michael Braans posted a brilliant century partnership, with Braans scoring his maiden 50 for the 1st XI. He was eventually dismissed for 70.
After Haller was dismissed, the in-form Marco Lombard took over and hit 93, joining Michael Hansel (46) to take Kingswood to 317 for five declared. Haller also excelled with the ball, putting Muir under pressure as he claimed all five of the Muir wickets to fall before tea.
Muir fought back superbly through Darren Wates (59) and Dillon Denis (65), but Kingswood remained patient. Eventually the breakthrough came after several dogged partnerships. Haller finished with 6/52, while spinners Matthew Thorp and Lombard picked up two wickets as Muir were bowled out for 191, six overs before the end.
