THE state is opposing bail for a former Port Elizabeth police captain who allegedly scammed desperate job seekers out of thousands of rands.
Charl de Ridder, 43, who was arrested last Friday, will have to spend the rest of the week in custody after the state said it needed time to obtain certain evidence before the formal bail hearing could proceed.
De Ridder made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning.
