Mayor set to name new directors

21 February 2013
Rochelle de Kock

NELSON Mandela Bay mayor Zanoxolo Wayile is expected to recommend today that four top acting officials in the municipality be replaced.

However, it is unclear who will take over from acting executive directors Shane Brown (safety and security), Peter Neilson (electricity and energy), Selwyn Thys (budget and treasury), and Walter Shaidi (infrastructure and engineering).

All have passed the six-month maximum period allowed in temporary posts. They will be absorbed into departments until permanent executives are appointed. It is said these appointments will only be made when the municipal manager post has been filled. All eyes will be on Wayile to see if he replaces them with directors from their departments or with general managers seconded by Local Government MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane in November. One acting executive director said Wayile had informed them they would be replaced.

Welcome Dr Msengana Ndlela to the Metro of failed service delivery due to juvenile infighting between Faku and Wayile. Your CV looks impressive on-line and we trust that you will be able to take an immediate and firm grip on the deployees / incompetent department heads who can't even get their people to provide basics like safe water or delivery on the needs of our poor communities. We hope in your busy schedule you will set aside time to drive forward the Kabuso Report findings, in particular the recommendations on Comrade Faku - it's time that the truth came out one way or the other - we wait anxiously for some action after years of paralysis.
