Lack of policing to blame for deaths

I LAY the blame for the deaths of the two motorcyclists ("Tragic weekend", February 11) squarely on our inept traffic department.

One can drive down the Cape Road or any other main arterial road in Port Elizabeth at any time of the day and in less than one hour, you will see at least half a dozen motorists jumping the red lights. I recently drove down Cape Road from the William Moffett to the centre of town and at virtually every traffic light that I pulled up at, at least one motorist managed to cross the line after the light had already changed to red.

If our so-called traffic cops had enforced this rule years ago when motorists began to copy the taxi drivers, the incidents, like this horrific accident, would have been far fewer.
