AS was expected, the race for Super A League honours has developed into a two-horse race with Mecer NMMU1 and Maritime Motors Old Grey emerging as the only realistic contenders.
Both are in action this weekend, with logleaders Old Grey travelling down the road to St George's Park for a meeting with fourth-placed SA Home Loans Union. Union have a number of injuries and will need all factors to work in their favour if they are to cause an upset.
Old Grey are a quality club side. They have depth in batting and have the kind of attack capable of putting the skids on any chase. Whether they can beat a full-time cricket unit like NMMU1 remains to be seen, but they will still be wanting to maintain the pressure on the students at the top of the log.
NMMU1 have maximum points from their outings but have played one less game than Old Grey.
The students should have little trouble extending their unbeaten record when they meet Northville at the campus on Sunday. NMMU1 do have players out representing Eastern Province this weekend, but they will have enough depth to see off Northville.
