A GROUND-breaking new eco-friendly high school is on the cards for Jeffreys Bay.
The school, which is expected to be complete in 2018, is a Global Leadership Academy initiative.
Phase one of the new building, which will also have accommodation for pupils and teachers, is already under way.
The school is a community project in more ways than one. Jeffreys Bay's Langkloof Bricks donated R590000 worth of bricks for phase one, Buchner Propvest donated 7.5 hectares of land adjacent to Fountains Mall, and accommodation on the premises will be built by volunteers from the academy.
Phase one, due to take about six months and expected to cost more than R30-million, will see the development of classrooms, an administration building and the initial site development.
Phase two, which is expected to take about eight months, is the development of a sports field and an amphitheatre at a cost of more than R23-million.
The final phase will be the building of student accommodation and a cafeteria at an estimated cost of R13-million.
