SELIMATHUNZI presenter Zizo Beda has added her voice to the 49m Green Campus Movement, an initiative to unite South African youth against climate change.
Beda is an ambassador for the government initiative 49m, which in collaboration with Eskom and big players in industry and commerce encourages all South Africans to save electricity.
She addressed students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) South Campus on Friday as part of the national campaign to create awareness among the youth.
"The aim of this campaign is to educate the youth on how to save electricity. We have also decided to take the entertainment route so that we do not bore them with lectures – something they get the whole day.
"We want them to enjoy themselves and also gain knowledge at the same time,” she said.
"We teach youth that simple things such as changing cooking times and switching off what is not in use make a big difference to the electricity grid. We are also distributing leaflets containing tips on energy saving.”
Students were introduced to various concepts and also made aware of renewable energy.
