IN The Herald of February 19 there was a notice concerning the Vuna awards ceremony planned to take place at Hemingways Hotel in East London the following evening.
These awards are hosted by the Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs to celebrate the municipal performance excellence awards.
This initiative is intended to support the development of a performance culture by identifying and rewarding good practice.
In view of the fact that it was also reported in The Herald that none of the municipalities in the Eastern Cape had a clean audit ("Not a single clean East Cape audit", February 18), surely the Vuna awards must have been a non-event as there has clearly be no "performance excellence" or is that just a myth?
