More IPTS bus lanes planned

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is making headway in its plans for a full roll-out of the new bus system, with construction of up to seven new routes scheduled to start soon.

Faced with the risk of losing the funding from Treasury if it is not spent by the end of June, the city asked the national department to allow for R340-million to be rolled over to the next financial year to get the first phase of the integrated public transport system (IPTS) off the ground.

While R640-million was given to the city for the project, officials could not say how much of that money had been allocated to cover running costs.
