VICTORIA Park registered an emphatic 74-run win over Alexander Road in their schools cricket encounter at Alex at the weekend.
Batting first, VP were patient from the outset after losing early wickets.
Chad Batty and Bradley Clemence managed to stem the tide for the visitors.
Batty was the driving force behind the VP onslaught and scored an unbeaten 63, while captain Justin Pretorius added a superb 55 before being run out. This enabled VP to post a competitive 220/8 in 50 overs. Alex's best bowlers were Yongama Cita (2/28) and Sheldon Pillay (2/38). After lunch, Alex came out with all guns blazing and reached 75 for one in 10 overs. However, VP introduced their spin bowlers into their attack this managed to curb the run rate, as well as to take crucial wickets.
Frustrated, Alexander Road began to lose wickets at regular intervals as superb bowling from Lwandile Sigula (4/19) and Joshuan Assam (3/23) saw the home side dismissed for 146.
Their top scorers were Revoldo Redcliffe (42) and Mark Matai (34).
In other matches, the VP under-14 team won by 57 runs after making 149/9, while the VP second team were also victorious, making 145/6 and dismissing Alex for 102.
