Engelbrecht makes his mark on the big stage

WHILE teenage try-scoring sensation Sergeal Petersen stole all the headlines, robust Southern Kings loose forward Jacques Engelbrecht played an equally important role in his team's upset Super Rugby win against the Western Force.

Engelbrecht, 27, who is known as "Vleis", came on from the substitutes bench in the first half when skipper Luke Watson left the field after suffering a knock to the throat.

The powerful loose forward certainly made good use of his chance to make an impression on the international stage in front of 32 000 fans at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

His direct battering-ram style drives at the heart of the Force defence earned him special praise from Kings head coach Matt Sexton.
