I CONGRATULATE the Southern Kings on an outstanding performance in the opening of a new chapter in franchise rugby in the Eastern Cape. You have surely proven to all that you have what it takes to be put on a bigger stage, and I hope the negative people will reverse their words and thoughts and come out in support of you.
We need to stand by this team and support them. Even though there were 30000 people in the ground there should have been 60000 people to support them and to be part of history.
The crowd that came out to support the team was awesome as they rallied behind the team.
The excellent leadership shown by Luke Watson and the professionalism portrayed by the team shows that all the hard work put in by them has paid off, even if it is the first game of this tough competition.
I would also point out the new sensation in our province, Sergeal Petersen. What a great opener for him, and I only pray for and wish him well with his career.
To Cheeky Watson and his team, well done. It was a long slog, but it finally paid off. We are all proud of you for putting a franchise team on the field in the Eastern Cape.
Super Rugby is here to stay. There is a long road ahead, but with the glory and favour of God I'm sure the team can do it.
I would like to encourage all to support the Southern Kings at home this season.
Surely they deserve it.
