Parent protest closes PE school

28 February 2013
Tremaine van Aardt

FOR the third day in a row, pupils at a Zwide primary school did not attend classes as parents protested over a lack of teachers.

The parents, who locked out the teachers and pupils of Isaac Booi Primary, said the Department of Education had failed to respond to the school's five-month long plea for a Grade 2 teacher and two Grade 1 teachers.

Isaac Booi principal Patrick Mtyobo said the department had told them that they were working on the problem, but the delay was affecting the quality of the school's foundation phase learning.

The Department of Education could not be reached for comment.
