ASSAULT accused Brent Cunningham will stand trial at the St Alban’s Prison court on March 14 and 15.
He made a brief appearance yesterday and the matter was postponed for trial.
Cunningham, 21, has been in custody since his arrest in December last year.
He is accused of viciously assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Shireen Ballan, 36, outside her Morningside home. It is alleged he also beat up two of her friends.
His lengthy bid for bail failed on February 7, after the court ruled that he was a danger to society due to his aggressive behaviour.
Cunningham has a previous conviction for the assault of his elderly father.
Yesterday, defence attorney Ryno Scholtz, who represented Cunningham in his bail application, withdrew as the attorney of record.
Cunningham will now be represented by Port Elizabeth attorney, Danie Gouws. – Kathryn Kimberley
