I ABSOLUTELY agree about the smut that is now forced upon those of us who wish to attend rugby matches ("Enough of smut at rugby", February 27). South Africa has become the rape capital simply because we have allowed women to be treated as commodities.
How is it possible to respect a woman when she flaunts her body in front of the world? Does she have no pride?
Has our society degenerated to such an extent that it has become the norm to allow soft porn to be part of everyday life? Christians, Buddhists and Muslims alike are forced to be exposed to this – whether we like it or not.
It is so sad that society now happily treats women as objects – there for the enjoyment, entertainment and abuse of men. No wonder men think it is okay to rape, that women are there to be abused.
This is the message we are sending out daily – look at the magazines on the stands, look at the semi-naked women at sports events. Where will human kind end up?
It is time that all decent men stand up together and ask that their mothers, daughters and sisters stop being treated like objects of abuse. Until then, please can we stop whining about the high incidence of rape.
