Five titles in a row for NMMU1

MECER NMMU1 were crowned EP Super League cricket champions for the fifth consecutive season after beating Maritime Motors Old Grey by seven wickets at Freeplay Park on Saturday.

Veteran lefthanded batsman Umar Abrahams scored an unbeaten 101 to ensure that NMMU1 will once again represent Eastern Province at the national club championship in Pretoria.

Old Grey batted first but started losing wickets regularly after a solid enough start. In-form Nicholas Emmett scored 57 in a mediocre total of 169 all out. Juan Harker added 36.

Seamer Devon Adams took 4/29, while offspinner Corbyn Dolley gave very little away in taking 3/12.

NMMU1 made short work of their target with the 32-year-old Abrahams anchoring the innings. He faced 120 balls and struck nine fours and three sixes, the last of which was hammered off the last ball to take him to 101 not out.

Yesterday, the champions celebrated their title with a 126-run victory over Rotatrim PECC at the campus.

This time it was Peter Furstenburg who provided the heroics with a 100 not out in NMMU1's total of 217/5. Promising seamer Anrich Nortje then took 5/13 as PECC were rolled for 91.
