Splash fest could flop

EVENT companies around Nelson Mandela Bay believe this year's Splash Festival in Port Elizabeth is likely to be a massive flop.

With less than a month to go, the municipality is in a last-minute scramble to award a contract to organise the festival.

This, despite the municipality advertising the tender in January.

The festival – which has attracted thousands of people in the past – is one of the biggest events on the city's tourism calendar.

It takes place during the Easter weekend and the contract to manage the event is worth more than R2-million. But red tape and political infighting is stalling the decision.

Unfortunately the splash event has deteriorated over the years and the more the municipality gets involved the more of a disaster it will become
