THE rolling closure of schools in Nelson Mandela Bay by angry parents grew yesterday, with a Port Elizabeth primary school opened only a year ago the latest where parents have banned children from entering.
Alfonso Arries Primary’s gates were shut by fedup parents in protest against overcrowded classes, non-payment of temporary teachers and a lack of Grade R teachers.
The two Grade R classes each have about 120 pupils and parents have vowed to keep the school closed until they are assured, in writing, that their grievances will be resolved.
