MACIA: POLICE BRUTALITY ALLEGATIONS

I AM not surprised at SAPS brutal conduct considering their low pay.

ZINZI

THE death of Mido Macia is shocking! Those responsible should be kicked out of the SAPS as soon as possible. This has to stop!

ANONYMOUS

WHAT a disgrace and embarrassment some of our police are – treating humans in this barbaric way! Will this too be swept under the carpet?

ZOZO

YOUR reporter, Graeme Hosken, forgot to mention the number of police officers murdered in the past year.

CITIZEN

LAST month we watched Miracle Rising, last week we watched a man dragged behind a police van in full view of the public! Unbelievable.

SHOCKED VIEWER

NOW I know why JZ needs such levels of security. He fears SAPS Gestapo units

TT

MOZAMBICAN's death: the same thing happened to ANC members during apartheid. What is the ANC's excuse going to be now? Blatant xenophobia by the SAPS and the ANC government. Those SAPS members will never be punished.

SHAWSHANK

I THINK it is great that the international community and global media see firsthand the violent crimes, killings and rape in South Africa. More importantly, the world has now seen the inaction, lethargy and denial of the government to impose stricter laws and punishment against perpetrators of this brutality. The men and women in the current government must surely condone these violent acts, since they have no coherent plan to stop it. It is obvious that the current situation is out of control. A government by the people but never for the people.

READER

THE reason why SAPS kill, steal, assault, lose firearms and are incompetent is because the senior officers are inexperienced with no management experience. That is the fault of the ANC for affirmative action. Useless leadership.

BID TO REPLACE MAYOR WAYILE

WITH all due respect to Ben Fihla, having an 81-year-old as the mayor makes no sense whatsoever. This seems like a ploy for some serious behind the scenes "string-pulling" or we could end up with another "consultant". Pity us poor ratepayers!

JAX

STRIKERS HAVE VOTING POWER IN HANDS

TO all the ANC strikers, why strike? You have the power in your hands! Just don't vote ANC, it is incompetent. Do you not see this?

MOVE ROAD BARRIERS

PLEASE move the barriers inwards on the corner of Avondale and Kabega roads.

BERGSMAN CASE: ACQUITTED OF MURDER

WOULD the judge have convicted these two thugs of murder had it been his father? This is not the first case where an elderly person has died because of being assaulted in a robbery. What message are we sending out there. Is the race card not being applied here?

REPLIES TO READERS' COMMENTS

M NEGRES, don't take it so hard when your stuff is not printed. Think of all those who never get a show in.

NIGEL

HIGHLIGHTS cricket: I agree with DA. It makes you mad. The SABC really thinks we all are so hard up for scraps of cricket. When it comes to soccer they use SABC3 and 1 for the same game. Don't we all pay the licence?

NO SUPPORT FOR SOUTHERN KINGS

HOW can Cheeky Watson expect me to drop the Bulls I've supported for 37 years?

TRUE BLUE

I SUPPOSE Cheeky Watson loves it when his is referred to as the Southern Kings boss. A humble person abhors this tag. Will never support the Kings while the Watsons "run" the show.

ALEC

TRANSFORMATION IN RUGBY

AMAZING that the bastion of Afrikaner rugby, the Bulls, fielded more players of colour last weekend than any other South African team and more than the Kings (the so-called bastion of black rugby) the previous week.

PROTEAS OVER-CONFIDENT

THE Proteas are too cocksure. Playing rookies is an absolute insult to Pakistan! Play our best!

FIRST MANAGE PRESENT HOSPITAL BETTER

A NEW wing for Dora Nginza – oh whoopi doo! Can't even manage the existing hospital!

TRACY

BHISHO cannot use Dora Nginza's capacity, so why a new wing?

AZ

TRAFFIC COPS NOT DOING THEIR JOBS

TRAFFIC officers are in Durban Road daily, they just don't act on the complaints. Clothes, fruit/veg on pallets in the road and furniture. No control!

GLENYS, PORT ELIZABETH

PART of the post-1994 freedom frenzy is robot jumping. But the game is no longer "beat the cop" (no cops left). Now it's "beat the cross-traffic".

JJ OSSHER

INCOMPETENT metro cops: they are afraid of executing their duties on taxpayers' expense. Rather replace them with cops who are always on the beat. We are all accountable for our actions – one fine written per day its unacceptable. These guys need to pave the way for people who need those jobs.

CONCERNED MOTORIST, KWADWESI, PORT ELIZABETH

PROMOTE IPTS BUSES BETTER

GIVE bendy buses a chance by promoting them with students, pensioners, special fares, timetables, etc. It's management that will make it work.
