Uitenhage teenager found dead

06 March 2013
17-year-old McCarthy High school pupil in Uitenhage was found dead outside his home at about 7am this morning.

The teenager, whose name has not yet been released by authorities, was found hanging from a tree by a rope in the back garden of their home in Rosedale, Uitenhage.

Police spokesman Marianette Olivier said that details were still sketchy and reasons for the suspected suicide were unknown.

"At this stage we do not know motive or time of death," she said. "He was not in uniform when his family found him in the garden. The postmortem will be able to tell us the time of death."

Olivier also stressed that a letter had not been found.

No foul play is suspected. An inquest investigation is under way by police.
