FORMER Nelson Mandela Bay banker Tshiwela Mhlantla is back in Port Elizabeth, this time as Absa's regional executive for retail sales and services across the Eastern and Southern Cape.
Mhlantla, who started in her new role last week, is no stranger to the province or Absa as she lived and worked in Port Elizabeth.
Absa head of retail markets Arrie Rautenbach said he was pleased to see Mhlantla return.
"Mhlantla is well known and well respected in the market. We are confident that her experience and unparalleled track record will benefit the bank in further developing its market position as a leading South African bank," Rautenbach said.
Mhlantla has a BJuris and LLB from the University of Durban-Westville and has completed a strategic management in banking programme from the international Insead Business School, and a range of Absa leadership, financial and strategic management courses.
During her career she has held various positions with Absa, including three years as the executive assistant to the group executive director of personal banking at Absa's head office in Johannesburg.
Mhlantla said this position had exposed her to the strategic operations of the business, providing an opportunity she greatly valued. She attributed her appointment as managing executive of personal loans in April 2010 and her subsequent success to this key appointment.
