NOXOLO Kiviet's comments regarding poverty ("Our 57% poverty level will end, Kiviet vows", March 5) are truly unbelievable. She had the audacity to "reveal that close to 60% of the province's population still live in poverty". Just shows she doesn't travel far out of her comfort zones, Port Elizabeth and East London.
The majority of the province's rural population has been living in poverty for years and years, and now she wants to "reveal" it. Wake up, woman.
Then she wants to behave like all ANC politicians and throw in the race card blaming repressive colonial and apartheid regimes for the destruction of the provinces food basket. The African National Circus has been in power long enough now.
To cap it all, it is reported that the seminar she was speaking at was followed by the provincial launch of the integrated anti-poverty strategy, and I bet there was free lunch, enough food to feed a village probably.
Strategies and seminars do not solve poverty. Perhaps if Kiviet and her fat cat comrades/deployees in the ANC took positive steps actually to alleviate poverty by creating jobs and building decent houses, the poverty level might, just might come down.
