11 March 2013

A SUPERB opening partnership of 65 by Bradley Bopp and Lloyd Brown laid the foundation for Grey High to win the annual Walmer Spar and Tops Old Grey Six-a-Side cricket title yesterday. The stand helped Grey beat Gelvandale by a comprehensive 39 runs.

The schoolboys made a massive 89 for two. Brown hit two sixes and a 12, which was a six in the max zone. Gelvandale lost too many wickets as they threw caution to the wind and made 50 for four in their allotted five overs.

In the semifinals, Grey beat Northville and Gelvandale beat PECC.

In the plate final, Old Grey beat Union, with Union making 44 for four and Old Grey 45 for two.

In the golden Oldies final, Penguins beat Old Grey by 30 runs. Penguins made 81/0 with Dave Callaghan and Peter Barclay batting splendidly. Old Grey replied with 51/1.

The fans were treated to 55 sixes during the tournament.
