Call for Oom Ben to be given chance

AN appeal for 81-year-old Ben Fihla to be given a chance to do his job as the Bay's new mayor before any judgment is passed based on his age was made yesterday by an opposition councillor.

DA caucus leader Leon de Villiers said: "I have reservations about an 81-year-old person having the energy to run this city, but some 81-year-olds have more energy than some 61-year-olds.

"In fairness, any person should be given a chance to prove himself. That he can take the job at his age means we should give him a chance to prove us wrong, but I do have my reservations."

De Villiers said he supported the axing of mayor Zanoxlo Wayile, whom the DA councillor described as "a weak leader and a poor decision-maker".

Give Oom Ben a "SMALL" chance, this must be scraping the bottom of the barrel. I am not saying Oom Ben does not have political experience, I am asking if he has the enery level and the stregth of character to stand up against a lot of corrupt, lazy, and ducking and diving officials who have had their own way for some time now and surley do not want to change their ways. Or is he just there to be a puppet for higher powers.
