Lazy public servants must go, says Manuel

NATIONAL Planning Minister Trevor Manuel cracked down on the ailing civil service yesterday, saying the government had no choice but to boot out lazy officials who joined it as a get-rich-quick scheme.

Promoting the National Development Plan (NDP) – South Africa's blueprint for growth – to academics, business people and government leaders in East London, Manuel said lack of consequences for non-performance and blatant corruption were at the centre of failures by the government. He was among those who addressed the annual Eastern Cape Economic symposium.

"We cannot have public servants who do business with the state. If you choose to be in public service, then you must serve people and that is how you earn your salary," Manuel said.

This is what the people have been saying for years,get rid of the incompetants from the public sector,how come you have onl;y woken up now ?

And so Mr Manuel who is going to start the ball rolling in the civil service,the laziness starts at the top,if they were doing their jobs the lazy so and so`s responsible for the mess would have been dealt with a long time ago.
