Big Soweto derby a rather drab affair

I HAVE watched all the Soweto derbies, but the one played on Saturday afternoon was very dull and did not live up to the expectations of millions of people who watched the game live on television.

In the first half, Pirates squandered a lot of opportunities and passes in the middle of the park were very poor on both sides.

Both goalkeepers were up to the challenge and made brilliant saves and after 20 minutes of play, I could sense that the game was destined for a draw.

During the second half, Chiefs put up a better performance, especially when Nkatha was replaced by Ngcobo.

The game changed and Ngcobo should have also scored, together with Tshabalala. Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was equal to the task as he made brilliant saves to keep the slate clean.

At the end of the day, Amakhosi are on 47 points, with 42 points for Pirates, who still have one game in hand.

But it looks as if Chiefs are still in the driving seat and I am confident that they are now almost tasting the league trophy.
