A NUMBER of prominent women, including Algoa FM personality Carol- Ann Kelleher and a Bay family lawyer, Joanne Anthony, have joined a lobby group who are bidding to tighten rape and abuse laws
The lobby group was started by gender activist Lindsay Ziehl.
"We want the support of more names and people," Ziehl said yesterday. "I had a call from another 20 or so people today as well."
Ziehl said she was particularly impressed by the work researchers from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and Johannesburg had done on behalf of the group.
"It is also great to have Anthony on board. She is fantastic and very knowledgeable," Ziehl said.
She said she wanted to make it clear that the lobby group would work towards change. "We don't need any more awareness campaigns. If people don't know now that rape and domestic violence is a problem, they will never know. There will be no luncheons and dinners and teas."
If anybody wants to join the campaign e-mail mblake@agnet.co.za.
