MUNICIPAL MANAGER

NEW municipal manager overrated from the start. Within nine months she will be negotiating a golden handshake and redeployed as chief of something else.

ALEC

FANIE DE VILLIERS

I'M very happy for Taylor who is now able to hear again. Fanie's daughter and mine are the same age. She's also deaf and desperately needs a cochlear implant which is unaffordable and the medical cover means nothing. I hope a "Fanie" will one day rescue Shanice too.

MOM

RUGBY STADIUM

AS the victim of a racial and physical attack by a drunk lout who was in my seat – bottom line root cause: poor planning and control by poor management.

EX SPECTATOR

IN response to Eastern Cape Motor Group's letter, I would like to add that it would be great to support the Kings at such a wonderful venue, unfortunately many of us stay away because of the behaviour of the Port Elizabeth supporters. Please EPRU, do something about the alcohol abuse, fighting, and general bad behaviour that is giving Port Elizabeth a bad name, so that all can support the Kings.

ROBBIE DE LA MARE, (CONCERNED SUPPORTER)

REPRESENTATIVES say the stadium is aimed at families. Why not open up the grassed areas for families a la King's Park. Corporate tents, braais, gig rig, guest speakers, jumping castles, etc.

NODDY

HISTORICALLY most of the Eastern Cape would be Sharks and EP supporters but I support the Kings when the Sharks play us. You can do both! Compromise.

BA

GOOD luck with stopping the booing.

81-YEAR-OLD MAYOR

FIHLA = fossil. Too old for mayor, should be in old age home or at Bayworld.

HENDRI

I AM 68 years of age. I have worked in finance for over 30 years, yet I am too old to be considered for a job. The 81-year-old mayor – how did you manage that?

VP

I'VE never heard of an 81-year-old getting employed ... and as a mayor nogal. And other people looking for work who are over 55 are considered old. Makes you think, doesn't it. Nice to have friends in high places.

OVER THE HILL

WE have a new mayor and the ANC "circus" starts all over again. Burn, destroy, protest.

DES STARK, UITENHAGE

UNSAFE COUNTRY

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma says we live in a safe country. Tell me, Sir, which country are you referring to? I live in South Africa where the elderly are being murdered and robbed and our women RAPED.

BRIAN

WHY won't this government reinstate the death penalty? Isn't it unconstitutional to murder, rob and rape innocent people too? We need a referendum ASAP.

CHERYLEEN, PE

MR mayor, please bring back Central policing to the entire suburb.

MH

LITTER

OUR beautiful city. Once so clean and tidy is slowly starting to look shabby. I live in the "sticks" and walk my dogs in the vast open areas only to find in the later years more and more rubbish thrown alongside the natural thoroughfare paths, by, I can only assume, our local "homeless" wanderers who seek sanctity and refuge in some sort of safe haven somewhere. The root cause of this situation surely must be that we do not have in place with our present "management"/ government team purposeful direction or ambition to introduce change to any of our present awkward situations of these days where seeking political acceptance for status position ranks higher than? About the rubbish... I will take a black bag with me ... It's my South Africa, I will look after it.

G MAC

THERE are no street cleaners in the northern areas and a postman delivers mail only three days a week in a huge area. Is this public service?

UNIMPRESSED

TAXIS IN TRAFFIC

TAXIS are avoiding long rows of traffic by crossing lanes at the intersection of William Moffett and Cape Road. This is dangerous and frustrating for other law-abiding road users. These taxis need to be stopped before there is a serious accident or fatality. Where are our traffic officers?

ROBERT FROM CHELSEA

VIDEO LAUNCH

DJ Spectrum, what are you thinking to have a music video launch on Good Friday? Do you know what that day means to us as Catholics?

CHURCHGOER

OSCAR PISTORIUS

Oscar is guilty of manslaughter at the very least. If he doesn't get a jail sentence it will be a travesty of justice.

OBSERVER

SO Oscar Pistorius is fighting his bail restrictions. The cheek to even expect it. And no doubt some of them will be overturned. But there is NO coming back from the dead for Reeva! Where is the fairness when the shooter gets chance after chance of living a normal life?

ZOZO

NCEBA FAKU

IS SARS going to sponsor Faku's entry into the business world?

SIPO

BRIDGE OF DEATH

IF people are allowed to put up a cross at Van Stadens because they personally believe in Jesus, what's to stop others putting up symbols of their personal beliefs? I'm sure not all jumpers are Christians. And yet I don't believe these same "Jesus saves" folk would be very pleased with garish symbols of other religions next to their precious cross! Religion is so personal, why do people keep ramming their beliefs down my throat? Where do I sign that petition, Jesse Walker?

B

THERE are crosses on the outskirts of many towns in SA. Thankfully PE will have one now. Well done, Robbie, and those who are supporting you.
