ON Thursday night at the St George's ground, the Warriors coach was being interviewed on TV and when asked if the team would be aiming for a bonus point, replied they would be happy with a win. At that point the captain, Davy Jacobs, and Ashwell Prince were going along pretty well, and were well within the required scoring rate.
Soon thereafter Davy took a slog at three consecutive balls and was dismissed. Surely the captain, with his experience, realised that all that was required was to play into the gaps and let Prince handle the rest?
A procession of so-called capable batsmen followed and the game was lost. Even "Muscles" Craig Thyssen could not connect the ball. This was an important game, as it would have secured a position at the top of the table and entry into the Indian league, which would have been of financial benefit to all.
A poor crowd, poor weather and a poor result for the sponsors and those who paid to watch. Maybe a name change from hard-working Warriors to something simple would be in order!
