TEN days after they were given their marching orders by the ANC's top brass, mayor Zanoxolo Wayile and his deputy, Nancy Sihlwayi, finally resigned from the Nelson Mandela Bay council, paving the way for new mayor Ben Fihla, 81, to be sworn in, possibly today.
The two submitted their resignation letters on Wednesday night, two days after the deadline given by the ANC's Eastern Cape leaders.
This was confirmed by ANC Eastern Cape provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane, who said a special council meeting would be convened today where Fihla and incoming deputy mayor Chippa Ngcolomba would be sworn in.
However, councillors had not yet been informed of the meeting by early last night. Wayile will be going to parliament while Sihlwayi will be deployed to Bhisho's local government department.
