EASTERN Cape clients of major banks are among about 7000 clients across the country who were affected by a massive "debit error" in the First National Bank (FNB) system in the early hours of last Saturday.

Customers, including those of Standard and Absa, awoke on Saturday morning to find that up to four debits of various amounts had been deducted from their accounts.

Some discovered that more than R10000 was involved.

Public relations consultant Michelle Campbell initially thought that she had been a victim of fraud when she discovered the debits. She has since been reimbursed.
