DEFIANT Nelson Mandela Bay residents in Njoli Square have refused to make way for the R285-million redevelopment project aimed at stimulating economic growth in the city.
The project forms part of the 2020 vision projects aimed at uplifting marginalised communities but has been on hold for a decade. While construction started in June, three residents are adamant that they will not relocate despite being offered what the municipality regards as lucrative deals.
Speaking on behalf of her family, Miranda Tsotso said: "We have been living here for more than 20 years, our history is here and the elders are not comfortable with moving."
