FAMILY and friends of a Port Elizabeth teenager who was set alight at the weekend after methylated spirits was allegedly thrown at her, are still in shock and baffled by the attack.
Natalie Jackson, 19, of Arcadia, is under heavy sedation at Dora Nginza Hospital's burns unit after suffering severe burns to the upper half of her body in the incident.
Yesterday her distraught mother, Melba Jackson – also of Arcadia – said though the family was relieved Natalie was alive, they were mystified as to why anyone would try to kill her. She said Natalie had suffered severe burns to 46% of her body.
"She is slowly starting to open her eyes but she is very swollen and she is in a lot of pain. The doctors said they would only be able to know the extent of the injuries in two to three weeks' time. She will have to remain there for that time," she said.
