THE Eastern Cape Department of Health has roped in small laundromats around Port Elizabeth to help prevent a laundry crisis at the city's hospitals caused by a combination of mechanical failure and an administrative bungle.
Department of Health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo confirmed yesterday that there had been a serious mechanical failure at the Port Elizabeth Hospital Complex's central laundry.
He said an administrative failure also caused a big industrial laundry in Port Elizabeth to refuse the hospital's linen yesterday. "There is a service contract in place, but Bhisho [the Health Department] hasn't paid them," Kupelo said.
