THANK you, Gail Klichowicz, for going to the media on this one ("Change the due date to month end", August 19). In a letter to the head of department, Mrs AM Henning, dated July 1, I raised exactly the same issue:
"While I accept your explanation of your authority and powers, my understanding is that your office is vested with these powers in order to deal with persistent offenders when necessary, and that council is not compelled to apply such a rule across the board.
"Given that your administration is inconsistent in the timing between invoice date and due date, and that different time lapses also occur between banks, it would be expected that common decency and sensible practice would dictate that a few days grace be permitted for the occasional variations that even diligent rate payers would experience.
"Or are we to conclude that municipal policy and administration is deliberately devised to defraud the public at every opportunity?"
I am still waiting for a response.
