THREE Nelson Mandela Bay senior managers, including chief spokesman Roland Williams, are in line for hefty salary increases.
Corporate services acting boss Mod Ndoyana has instructed that their pay packets be topped up with hundreds of thousands of rands a year. This blatantly contravenes a decision taken by a council task team last year to downgrade their salaries.
It is also illegal – the increases were never budgeted for – and raises the concern that other directors will want to jump on the bandwagon.
Ndoyana instructed earlier this month that Williams and constituency director Dumisani Mbebe – who both returned to work recently from lengthy suspensions – as well as Nimrod Mqulwana, a director in the speaker's office, be pushed up to the highest salary scale for directors. This would see them earn about R800000 a year.
