THE majority of the sections of the EP trips bowls tournament was decided in blustery conditions last weekend and the winners now have to negotiate a sectional play-off in order to qualify for the finals on September 14-15.
The sections with five teams have a direct road to the finals. Glynis Butler overcame the tough opposition in her section, beating both Moira Buchanan and Elmare le Gras to set up a clash with clubmate Bev Treadway. Barbara Coetzee put out champion Marlene Tarrant to earn the right to meet Anna Kritzinger in the preliminaries.
Lesley Hartwell is straight through on account of a withdrawal in her section.
Some interesting tussles can be anticipated between Terry Purcocks and Piet Slabbert, Kepler Wessels and Dries Prinsloo, and Gary Vermaak and Jacques Wasserman to determine the eventual finalists.
The following players have been invited to the Masters to be contested on September 28-29.
Women, Section A: Lourenza van der Merwe, Diane Ahrens, Sandra Boardman, Susan van Rensburg, Karen Korkie and Moira Buchanan; Section B: Wilma McLachlan, Dezi Rosenblatt, Sandy Smart, Annette Herselman, Rosa Tunstead and Ilda Forbes.
