HEAVY rain disrupted the Pefa Premier League soccer match between NMMU Madibaz and Callies at the South campus on Wednesday.
The match was initially halted 15 minutes before half time but play resumed after a short break.
However, the players did not return for the second half after referee Harry Heroldt called the match off due to the heavy rain.
With the league cup heading for the Central Acemates cabinet, Madibaz and Callies were playing for the runners-up spot at best.
The students were leading 1-0 when the match was called off.
To rub salt into the champions' wounds, Madibaz's goal was scored by their former striker Bradley Peterson.
THE semifinals and finals of the Mofa Top Eight, which carries a winners' purse of R5000 and R3000 for the runners-up, will be played this weekend. In the First Division semifinal, Milan Stars play Swallows, while Real City take on Mubs tomorrow.
Ikamva Movers and Shining Stars, who finished first and second in last season's Premier League, clash in the first semifinal, with Highland Spurs and Valencia meeting in the second.
The winners in both divisions meet in the finals on Sunday.
